Tried & Tested - Silver Creek Folding Fillet Knife

Buck Launch New Silver Creek Folding Fillet Knife

The knife that answers the demand for folding version of popular Silver Creek fixed-blade series

Following the successful launch of their series of Silver Creek fishing knives, and the overwhelming positive reaction, Buck has now launched the new Silver Creek Folding Fillet knife in response to the predictable question from fishermen who asked when they could get a folding version with the same advantages, including the desired blade flexibility that is difficult to achieve in a folder.

The awaited answer is Buck's new Model 220 Silver Creek Folding Fillet Knife. It has a 6-1/2” blade that locks open to a solid 13-3/4”, yet folds to a compact 7-1/4” for easy carry in a heavy-duty nylon sheath. It weighs just 6.0 oz. The blade, made of 420J2 stainless steel and titanium coated for added corrosion resistance, is so flexible it can run flat on the table for clean fillets. A thumb-notch in the blade makes it easy to open with one hand.  Buck's reliable mid-lock mechanism ensures safe use.

As with the other Silver Creek knives, the glass-reinforced polypropylene base handle has a textured, soft rubber overmold, ergonomically shaped for comfort, with anti-slip ridges for sure grip.  A stainless steel guard adds durability and safety. A lanyard loop at the end of the handle helps keep secure in use.

With its promise of durability, flexibility and reliable performance, the Silver Creek Folding Fillet knife is backed by Buck's unconditional Forever Warranty. The Silver Creek folding knife retails at £39.95.  For stockist information, please contact Whitby & Co on 01539 721032.

Tried and Tested

I've had the pleasure of filleting a few rainbow trout with this knife and can vouch for its extremely keen edge and how comfortable it is to use. It locks open safely but is easy to close when you want to fold it up for carrying.

This is a top quality product that makes an unpleasant job (for me anyway) faster, easier and more bearable.

Tried & Tested - Pallatrax Potent Pastes

These shelf-life Potent Pastes from Pallatrax are hand-made with top quality ingredients and all the additives and flavours used in them are of human grade.

Available in 10 flavours: Pommes, Jungle, Crave, Bloodworm, Shellfish, Pineapple, Strawberry, Scopex, Cheese Feast & Elixir 6.

A 200g Pot  will set you back just £2.95.

I've been using them for a few months now and caught a good variety of species on the various flavours. If I'm pushed to pick a favourite then I'd have to go for 'Jungle'. I've had just that little more action on that flavour than any of the others. And besides, it has a unique smell that appeals to me too!

They've worked for me on both river and stillwater. They're pretty good even in a strong flow, for they're a firm paste that doesn't wash off the hook too easily.

In stillwater all you have to do is mould a lump into a pear shape and hang it on the hook as you would a maggot - providing you're pole fishing or not casting too far.

Otherwise, mould it around the shank, leaving the point free to do its job. Or, mould it around a hair-rigged bead, a small boilie or a Pallatrax Squab, as it makes a great wrap.
